Hungering For The Word Of God

This is from another lesson of Phillip’s. I realize that some of his lessons might make you uncomfortable and that can be good because it means you still have a conscience. This lesson made even me uncomfortable. Here’s my notes:
A couple of weeks ago, an elephant, 15 feet tall, 13 tons, died in Zimbabwe. Starving villagers fought each other for parts of its body. In one hour and 47 minutes it was reduced to skeleton. It’s bones were taken for soup. They used knives, machetes, knives made from can tops. That’s hunger!
Mark 8:1-9-4000 people fed with 7 loaves of bread.
John 20:30-31-“these written that you may believe”-were not performances or stunts-spiritual message behind them.
This showed He was the source of an unending supply of food.
1) The people’s real hunger-vs 2-3-“I have compassion because they have continued with me for 3 days and have nothing to eat and if I send them away hungry, they will faint on the way, for some have come from afar.”
They came for Him-to hear Him, didn’t know He would do this miracle. His miracles were done at a certain point in time.
Mark 1:37-38-“Let us go into other towns so I can preach…why I came”
4 Questions
1) Do you hunger daily for God’s word? We make plans and provisions to eat. Do we have the same hunger? We have to develop a hunger-like one does for coffee.
2) Does your pursuit of God’s word cause you to put your physical needs second?
3) Does your hunger for God’s word cause you to disrupt your earthly routine? These people had left their home when Jesus fed them.
4) Are you seeking the true source of God’s word?
John 17:8, 1 John 4:1-“do not believe every spirit, test them, many false prophets…”
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, published in 1906-“meat stored in piles, water drip from ceiling, rats swarm, men poison bread-give to rats”-The true source of the food. What spiritual food are we putting in our bodies?
